Today I was kicked out from one of your Giant Eagle stores for not wearing a mask. The employee came up to me after my cart was full and I was almost ready to check out. She said I needed a mask. I let her know I have health issues so can't wear one. She said too bad, you need to wear a mask or we can't check you out. So I had to leave my full cart in the aisle while I walked out and went across the street to Kroger who would never deny someone service because of health issues.
Since the COVID 19 crisis began, I have noticed that the employees at Giant Eagle have surpassed their typical miserable service. They have become more of a supermarket police force bordering on the ridiculous. The service has always been rude, but now they have become even worse. I will not shop at this store again and will encourage others to not shop here as well.

I shop frequently at the Painsville OH location. The butchers are LAZY! They never want to cut the meat that's available. I went today 6-2-2021, asked for short ribs. The 3 associates who weren't busy but socializing, didn't want to cut the meat at 5:00pm and asked me did I want an order. I wanted 2.5lbs
Very disappointing. I guess Heinen's will be my home store. Unbelievable. Hope the conversation the 3 associates had was very good.
I was almost attacked by the store manager in Vermilion Ohio she came running out from behind the manager counter and screamed put a mask on, which I was putting on as she came running at me, she is very lucky I didn't clock her, will never go to that store again, switching all my prescriptions to have my insurance company mail them to me, they have the worst costumer service I have ever seen.
When someone calmly goes to customer service to clarify a display sign promoting buying three cokes and getting two free and is rudely informed she's wrong in spite of the signage and then is told, "I'm done with you!," in front of other employees and customers, you cant get any lower. I hate to think this is representative of the culture at Giant Eagle because if it is, I'll be writing about this in articles I ghostwrite for a large client in New York. Some of my articles are about CX (customer experience) and leadership. Besides customers who witnessed this spectacle, talk with Sue who was the only employee there who displayed any empathy. She's aware of the conversation.
The Giant Eagle Pharmacy in Avon lake , Ohio is where my husband buys our prescriptions from mostly..
They have recently added a Starbucks bar to the mix. Unfortunately it is a dying institution , in my humble opinion like Tops at Avon Lake Towne center.,, which shuttered down ????
I personally am sentimental about Giant Eagle because it was where I shopped in Pittsburg, PA , where my son was born ! I hope the management devices new strategies to help with the growth of this fine institution ????????????
Every time I go to Giant Eagle I find another reason why I should not. Now I have to pay cash for money orders:-( No more taking it from my Bank Debit Card. My Bank Card is as good as cash because it won't process it if I don't have money in the bank.
This is actually about an experience my mother had with Giant Eagle. My mother purchased a $125 Lyft Gift Card at Giant Eagle Store #45. It was a gift for a friend who's car had been taken to the repair shop for an indefinite period of time. Unfortunately when her friend went to use the card she accidentally scratched the pin number to hard rendering it unidentifiable. My mother and her friend reached out to Lyft first, but due to the fact it was purchased through Giant Eagle they referred her back to the store. This does make sense because she did pay the $125 to Giant Eagle and with the proof of the receipt, the approval slip and the actual damaged card she should have ay the very least been given a replacement Lyft card if not as a courtesy more as a legality which I am sure can be proven as I am looking into this matter further.
Forget the e-gift cards if you want flexibility. Previously it was so smooth and easy. Now it's a pain and very impractical. We were at Lowe's to buy a dishwasher. I placed the e-card order around 8:30pm. It's 11pm and I still don't have a confirmation email. I called the customer service number and had to go through three people. They told me that I'd been confirmed and that the email would take 15-30 minutes. WWEELL... no. I am very dissatisfied. Forget going to a restaurant and purchasing a gift card for your charge. Forget going to Home Depot, T. J. Max, etc and ordering for your total.
I am a conservative person & I really like Giant Eagle! They are not the only game in town. For that, I’m lucky! Of the others, I choose G.E. Because more often than not, they have what is needed and at a fair price! The people are wonderful & very helpful!
I love that the fruit and vegetable selection is top notch. Giant Eagle's meat is also a better variety than other stores. I like that i get discounts on gas when i shop.
I was with my husband at Hemphield Giant Eagle in Greensburg, PA on 1/2/21. His mask was below his nose and he was confronted by a butcher. My husband is hard of hearing and at first didn't realize that he was being talked to. The butcher kept following him and yelling at him. My husband explained that he has breathing problems and that he can wear it over his mouth but not over his nose. He was later confronted by another employee shouting the same thing. At the register, he was contronted by another employee who was telling him that if he didn't pull the mask over his nose, he would not be able to purchase anything. My husband left the store and I paid for the items. I felt threathened and fearful as all these employees followed us around the store, yelling at him. When I got home, I called a female manger to tell her my concerns. She said she was well aware of the incident because she too was following us around (we weren't aware of this)... so we were stocked and harassed by 4 employees because my husband didn't have the mask over his nose due to medical conditions he has. We will no longer be customers at Giant Eagle or Get Go. We have been customers for over 20 years and buy all our gas at Get Go. I can not be a returning customer after this treatment. I was told by the manager that even if a person has a medical excuse from a doctor they will be asked to leave the store if they don't wear a mask. And that they call the police and arrest people for trespassing when they refuse to leave.
UPDATE:
Was contacted by customer service, and was basically told that they condone harassment, abuse, hate, discrimination, and refusal of public service to anyone with a medical condition who are unable to wear a mask. That they deliberately don't care to abide by the ADA law, or the Civil Rights Act of 1967. It's unbelievably immoral and despicable! As a public service if you are unable to serve your customers to the best of your ability and abide by the law, then you deserve to be shutdown and go bankrupt. It's absolutely disgusting how you're employees treat their customers, an absolute disgrace, unethical!I was aggressively harassed and discriminated against today around 12:40 at the 2801 E. Waterloo Rd. Giant Eagle, (store #4029). Had two employees and their manager jumping down my throat over a mask after I explained to them that I have a medical condition, and it isn't proactive for me to wear a mask, they proceeded to harass me and refused service. So I went to the self-checkout, and there I was harassed by two other employees. I explained to them my same situation, and they continued to harass me and discriminate.
They tried to tell me that wearing a mask is the law now, they are sorely mistaken. Mandates are NOT law! I don't give into tyranny and unconstitutional acts of the government and these fear mongering dictators. The only ones breaking the law were your employees, so you should probably inform your employees on the ADA law, because they all broke it when I informed them of my medical condition and how they are breaking the ADA law by harassment, discrimination and refusal of service of someone with a medical condition. It doesn't matter what your policy is on masks, you still have to abide by the ADA law and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And because of this despicable harassment and discrimination, I will be filing a discrimination/harassment complaint to the Ohio attorney general, Better Business Bureau, and Ohio Civil Rights Commission!
